The Cutest Hats Ever

Right now I can't stop looking at baby knit animal hats.  My baby will be born in the spring, so I don't know how realistic these warm hats are for that time of year, but I really want to try and knit one!

Cultural Changes + New Baby Bump Pics

Being back in Topeka has definitely felt a bit like culture shock.  I feel like I've been living abroad somewhere far away for a year and I've just come back and I'm still surprised when I walk into a store and hear mostly English.  I also notice that I'm not the only white girl in the room, and this has been the opposite for Israel.  So it's an interesting switch.  You can read more about his perspective of living in Kansas on his new blog.

The other day I went to Dillon's (which is like Publix for you Floridians) in search of our favorite brand of canned black beans-- Goya.  Normally in Miami, I would be able to find about seven different brands just of black beans in the regular canned goods aisle, but walking into Dillon's, I only noticed one or two brands.  And they were both American.  Determined to find the right kind, I searched out the ethnic section and found a huge can of Goya.  Score.  I just couldn't get over the fact that this item I could find in any supermarket in Miami was only in the ethnic section here.

I had my first doctor's appointment in Topeka this morning, and I loved everyone in the office.  I feel way less rushed here.  We listened to the baby's heartbeat which I really loved since I haven't been able to hear it for about a month since my last appointment in Miami.  We heard it right away when the nurse pressed the Doppler right below my belly button but the baby moved away quickly.  Baby doesn't like to be prodded!  But she was able to find it again and it was a steady 150 beats per minute.  I asked the nurse practitioner about more hemorrhoid advice and I was a bit discouraged to hear that it would only get worse later.  I had been feeling so good about it lately because things in that area were waaaay better.  But oh well, I've got lots of Preparation H supplies so I'm ready for it.

I'm also concerned that I may be gaining too much weight so quickly.  I brought it up at my appointment and they told me it sounded like I was on the right track.  I've gained about seven pounds so far.  My doctor told me since I'm so short, it'll definitely be harder not to gain too much weight since I have nowhere to hide it.  I think I'm showing a LOT more than most women at this stage in the pregnancy because of my short torso.  I can literally spread out my middle finger to my thumb and that's the whole length of it, so there's nowhere for the baby to go but out!

I'm 17 weeks today, so I'm pretty sure at my next appointment we'll be able to find out if it's a boy or girl!!  We're going to wait to tell everyone else till Christmas though.  :)  Lately, I've been feeling little flutters and subtle movement from the baby.  I wasn't sure for a while what I was feeling, if it was just my stomach or the baby, but my nurse practitioner assured me I was probably feeling the baby.  It's kind of fun right before I go to bed lying on my side and feeling little Baby Sanchez move around.

And now for some new baby bump shots:

Road Trip to the Midwest

Well, we are back in Topeka now, shivering and enjoying the last breath of Fall color on the trees.  On today's agenda is buying Israel a coat and some preggo pants for me.  :)

Our trip went pretty fast, although it was a 29 hour car ride.  I felt pretty comfortable for the most part, although I have become annoyed with seat belts tightening in a weird way around my expanding belly.  Driving through Tennessee was one of the highlights for me because the scenery was just so gorgeous.  I hadn't seen any of the changing leaves for at least two years so of course I couldn't stop taking pictures of the beautiful red and orange leaves!

We made it to Indiana by Friday night and stayed with Renae and Justin for a couple nights at their apartment.  I really loved our time with them and we even got to see their new house which they will be moving into this weekend.  They even surprised us with a little ice cream cake celebrating the baby's coming birth.  :)

It was nice to finally visit Evansville and see where they had been and will be living.  Our time there was too short but we are really looking forward to seeing them again at Thanksgiving.

My husband is embarrassed by this picture but I think it shows our true personalities here.  ;)  hahaha

And now for a normal one.  :)

Leaving Miami

My dad will be here tomorrow to help us load up and then we're leaving on Thursday morning!  I'm very excited to be back in my hometown and close to family again, especially now!  We're going to stop in Indiana on the way there to see Justin and Renae and will even get to see their new house.

I'll update again once we're in Topeka.

By the way, any ideas on a new blog title??

In Transition: Maternity Wear

Dressing myself has become a challenge these days.  While I'm all about embracing maternity clothes, my baby bump isn't quite big enough at this point yet to wear the cute tops.  Right now I'm kind of in a weird transition between my regular clothes and maternity clothing.  Most days I just wear my jeans (which are becoming more uncomfortable every day), a long tank, and an oversized cardigan.  However that's only when I go out.  As soon as I come home, I change into my sweat pants immediately.

Seeing as Israel and I have only been married a little over a year now, I don't won't to become frumpy this soon.  So I'm thinking a good pair of maternity jeans would be a great purchase now.  However, it's hard to find styles that fit my short but curvy body.  It's hard to find a good pair that will actually fit my ever-growing curves but aren't too long.  Mainly, I just want a pair of jeans that I won't constantly have to pull up in the back due to love handles.  I'm going to need to do some shopping before we move because I'm going to need a good pair to wear on our long travel days coming up.  I'm really liking this style from Gap:

And this dress from Target is pretty cute:

In other news, I think we'll be finding out the sex of the baby in about a month!  I already made a couple appointments with my new doctor in Topeka, one with the nurse practicioner the week we get there and one with my actual doctor in early December, when I think we'll find out the gender.

Quick Update

Israel and I are here at the library for a just a quick Internet fix before we have to leave soon for dinner at Marili's house.

This week, I can attest that constipation and hemorrhoids during pregnancy are real and very, very painful. No worries, I'm not going to get into details unless you ask for them, but let's just say that this week has been quite uncomfortable.  I seem to get every crazy pregnancy symptom in the book.

I think most of you know by now that we're moving to Topeka!  We had actually first started talking about this in August and were thinking that we'd move back next summer so we could soon start a family.  Well, this baby surprised us all and changed things a little.  So we're moving in a week!!

And it's time to leave.  I'll try and write more later.
